Title: Protect and Survive II: Raising the Stakes (4/11)
Fandom: Stargate
Rating: T
Genres: action/adventure, drama
Summary: Laura Cadman is caught between a rock and a hard place. Or maybe rather between her heart and her head? Anyway, it's never easy when a certain Doctor and Major are involved.
A/N: So, uh, yes. This. Well. As you can see, I haven't forgotten about it. Could have been worse, right? It could have taken me a year to update, after all. Like, for Fred. Actually, I don't even know when I last updated Fred. It's gonna change, though. Really, it is. Anyway. Here we go.

Title: Not in Kansas Anymore (9/23)
Fandom: Stargate/Star Wars
Rating: M
Genres: crossover, romance
Summary: When Laura Cadman and Evan Lorne woke up in a storage room, they never thought it would be in a galaxy far, far away. And now they need to find a way back home, past Special Operations agents and stormtroopers, between the fronts in a war they thought they knew (from television, mind you). But no one ever said it would be easy.
A/N: Damn, I'm sorry. Really, I am. I kind of hadn't planned for such a long absence of this fic from the journal. Work is kicking my ass and draining all my creative juices at the moment but I'm resolved to at least post all the stories still in the buffer. Maybe that'll help with the writing, too. Also, am still promoting [livejournal.com profile] yappichick's fanart!

So, after a little conversation with [livejournal.com profile] keylafirefly and an encounter with an origami frog army for my favorite co-worker (I wish I'd taken pictures. But then again... better not. It probably would have put me up right there with Parker *points to icon), I decided to do a collective order from KnockKnock to save shipping costs to Germany. Anyone on the flist living in Germany and wanting to spend their hard earned money on nonsense that'll label you as the office's Parker necessary office supplies, please tell me so in the comments and I'll put you on the list (haven't decided between Evernote and Delicious yet for the list. The hardships of modern life, I'm telling ya). This is important: you have until April 15 to tell me what you'd like to order. After that, I'll order and figure out how to send what to whom...

PS.: Anyone got any recs for fics for Smilla's Sense of Snow? I found myself with an insatiable craving during watching the movie on rbb tonight. Anyone? Please? Pretty please with a cherry on top?

Okay, guys, next in line is the white truffles raspberry tarte. Because I kept stalking looking for information on people from my past for way too long tonight and promised [livejournal.com profile] ancient_leah this would be online by tomorrow morning GMT+1, I might be a little bit tired. So if something sounds weird... just wait until I read it again being a little less tired. It'll sort itself out then, trust me.

This tarte is, I think, [livejournal.com profile] heitidei's favorite tarte and was a huge success when I made it for her and [livejournal.com profile] schnelmi's birthday party. Apparently, even though it's best enjoyed in small pieces, people kept going back to it and wanting more. It kind of... threw me. Anyway. Getting started now.

So, I did promise I'd post the tarte recipes. Because I have to convert metric to... whatever it is you call your measurements people in countries that don't use metric measurements (what do you call it? I always wondered about that. BTW, this is the converter I used, so in case anything looks weird, blame that) standard, I'll post them one at a time. And can someone please test the figures for non-metric and tell me the correct ones? They always are very screwed when converted from metric... Anyway, we'll start with the one I made for International Women's Day (and received lots and lots and lots some praise for at work), cocolate chili*.

*I'll post the German version to the recipe notebook, [livejournal.com profile] rareb.

I still haven't deciced what to make for the special co-workers but I have decided what to make for the rest of the office. Tarte. Only, I have no idea [Poll #1824497]

WERDER BREEEEEEEMEN! Mwhahahahaha! 1:0! Maybe there's still hope for Hertha BSC after all. Maybe they'll keep Premier League. Maybe miracles really happen. Maybe only half of Germany will laugh about Berlin and their soccer club after this Season. One can always hope.

Genres: gen, with hints at het
Summary: All Brad Colbert wanted was some quiet but that means nothing if Evan Lorne wants to talk to you.
A/N:  Moah. That was a monster of a story to write. I don't even know why it took me so long to finish it. I blame my job. Anyway, it's done. I sincerly hope you like it. Yes, writing this drained me enough that I can't come up with a more original A/N.

Anyway. It's March again. And you know what that means?

Exactly!

Women's History Month!

Let's celebrate Women's History, with fic and art and baking and political rallying (or practical political action such as male represenatives trying their hand at traditionally women's jobs and female representatives taking the parliament stage, for example)! Whee! I'm so excited! I love Women's History Month, did I mention that yet? I love it! *jumps up and down excitedly (in my head, anyway)

GNAH!

Dear Hertha BSC players, please stop losing every game they throw at you. It's starting to become embarassing again. Thank you.

Desperately, me.

That is all.

The office of German Bundespräsident (President) is not half as powerful as that of the American, French or Russian President. It's mostly a ceremonial office and laws have to be signed by the President to become valid. I have only ever heard of exactly one President who refused to sign a law until it was changed (Horst Köhler, if I remember it correctly. Input, anyone?) so that's mostly ceremonial, too.

You, sir, are Not My President, and this is why. )

Summary: Sometimes, Dr. Jennifer Keller doesn't mind a little tactical fire support.
A/N: So. I'm not... sure about this. I asked [livejournal.com profile] hanseatic_keks to look it over and she made a valuable point of some of Colbert's trademark dry wit lacking in the chapter even though there were a few points where I could have inserted it. I did look over the chapter and editted a few parts but... I'm not sure if it really worked. (the main thing is that Jennifer Keller is a female civilian and kind of a figure of authority (at least in a formal way), despite everything and honestly... that's what made this so difficult to figure everything out. I'd be very happy about any input whatsoever. Seriously. I mean it.)

when I say gen I fucking mean gen. Not McShep, not any other slash, not even het. Please, for the love of God, fucking stop reccing me stuff that does not correspond with what I'm asking for. I honestly don't know how to say this anymore without outrightly offending you slashers but if this - you reccing me slash although I specifically ask for het or gen, I mean - happens ever again, you will see this in every damn single future request and screw the rules:

Please do not rec me slash. Under no circumstances I want to see a slash rec for this request. Slash recs will be ignored or maybe snarked at, if I feel in the mood. When I want slash, I will let you know. As long as I don't, I do not want to read slash, okay? Okay? Can you please respect that? You're always asking for people to respect slashers, so can you slashers please also respect people who do not want to read slash? I respect you. I don't rec het or gen if you definitely want slash. I don't rec you Lorne/Cadman when you want McShep. I don't rec you OCs when you want McShep. I don't rec you Marines when you want McShep.* So please do not rec me slash (and most of all, most of all, do not ever rec me McShep. I loathe it with the fire of a thousand suns) when I say that I fucking don't want to read it! Read. The fucking. Post.

No love, me.

*Because you know, that seems to be all they're ever asking for. I rejoice for every request that isn't McShep. And yes, this is my journal, I can say whatever the fuck I want here.

Summary: Laura Cadman wouldn't be the first Lieutenant Sergeant Brad Colbert is giving some gentle nudges into the right direction. If she'd just let him.
A/N: Eh. This was inspired both by [livejournal.com profile] hanseatic_keks who gave me a Generation Kill/Stargate prompt for this year's Holiday Fic Request Meme and thus made me finally read and watch Generation Kill and [livejournal.com profile] arwen_lune who took that prompt as an inspiration to start Rock Happy which is about the coolest thing I'm currently waiting for to be continued and her idea to use Laura Cadman and Brad Colbert in a fic. Originally, this one was rather supposed to be a one-shot but... my characters apparently love to betray me screw me over surprise me and there were a few other Atlantis characters who wanted to appear in a fic together with Brad Colbert (but then again... who doesn't?) so, uh, this kind of became a 'verse. Going by the name of Joint Fire Support Team *rolls eyes at self

Anyway, this is my first story involving Generation Kill and there are no words for how nervous I'm about it. I'm brand new to the fandom and for some reason, Generation Kill seems to be intimidating as a fandom (although I'm sure you're all great people!) and uh.. be gentle? Please?

Also, anyone finding messed up homophones, please jump on them, trample them down and then hand them to me. I will do with them what they deserve. They are my personal nemesis. (ask my part-time beta, [livejournal.com profile] mackenziesmomma)

Let's do this, guys. Let's tell the EU Parliament what we think about making ISPs the democratically non-legitimated police and judges of the interwebs rolled into one. Let's tell them how much our freedom of speech matters to us and what we think about denying developing countries affordable medication (because yes, that's part of ACTA, too). Let's sign those:

Just say no to ACTA campaign by access

ACTA petition by AVAAZ.org

Let's tell them how sick we are of old white men who print out their e-mails trying to reign the internet.

Black March - Thursday March 1st 2012 to Saturday March 31st 2012 With the continuing campaigns for internet-censoring litigation such as SOPA and PIPA, and the closure of sites like Megaupload under allegations of 'piracy' and 'conspiracy' the time has come to take a stand against music, film, and media companies' lobbyists. The only way is to hit them where it hurts. Their profit margins. March 2012 is the end of the First Quarter in economic reports world wide. Do not buy a single record. Do not download a single song, legally or illegally. Do not go to see a single film in cinemas, or download a copy. Do not buy a DVD in the stores. Do not buy a videogame. Do not buy a single book or magazine. Wait the four weeks to buy them in April: see a film later, etc... Holding out for just four weeks, maximum, will leave a gaping hole in media companies profits for the first quarter, an economic hit which will in turn be observed by governments world wide as stocks and shares will blip from a large enough loss of incomes. This action will give a statement of intent: "We will not tolerate the Media Industries' lobbying for legislation that will censor the internet."
Original image and campaign source: reddit.

Edited to add my own thoughts (not part of the original reddit call for action) And if you do not feel like taking a total break and perhaps want just a trial separation or couple's counseling, then perhaps consider Black March Lite 2.0 = spend, but spend money on those content creators and independent retailers who came out against SOPA/PIPA.  And tell them why you're buying their products in March.  There are many of them.

And for those who favor the more targeted boycott, you can find info  here.  But no matter which,  you can participate and you can tailor your level of participation.  We have the tools, the will and the strength to take a stand.

After LJ's latest ass fuckery, I finally decided to at least create an account here. As of now, I'll continue to post and read at LJ but if they don't get their shit around, I'll change here completely, never mind that I have a paid account until 2015. Even I have my limits.
gelbes_gilatier: (Pissed.)
Okay. I think the LJ people really lost it now. Apparently, according to this article, us longtime users are worth shit to LJ. They don't care about us, the people who've been paying their goddamn salaries with our fucking money for years and years because... I don't even know why. Why are we of no interest to you, LJ people? Whatever did we do? Whose asinine idea was it to actually say that out loud and then fucking share that article proudly to all your now seriously pissed off longterm users? I can't believe anyone would be so dumb as to do any of that, and here you are doing all of it.

So, how about we all tell [livejournal.com profile] theljstaff what we think about their big coup here? Let's give them a reminder that we are actually capable of reading and understanding when someone is trying to bullshit us (or, as in LJ's case, being a goddamn idiot openly). They said they like freedom of speech. Let's give 'em a piece of that.

And now I'll go back to channel my ever growing aggressiveness towards LJ into writing Brad Colbert and Laura Cadman. Thank God for Generation Kill and SGA.
