Well, then...
Let's see: Two days in Vancouver are over now and I'm so very much in love with this city it's not even sane anymore. I just love it that you can see the mountains or the sea and most often both of them no matter where you look at. I also love the whole wild landscape thing and the skyline and... yeah, a million other things. But from the beginning.
Yesterday, my sister showed me the UBC campus (but most of it was closed down because obviously there they decided that Easter Monday is a holiday after all... honestly, people, can't you just decide on it once and for all?) where I had a hard time believing that all this really belonged to one university (I studied at a university with about 4000 students... and UBC has about 50.000... go figure...) and we visited Granville Public Market and Island (where I found a really nice coffee cup with maple leafs on it and... nearly bought it but then I remembered I already bought a Starbucks cup at the original Starbucks in Seattle... yes, I do have a coffee cup problem) and walked along False Creek until we came to Science World. I now have another "Where I want to live when I grew up and have LOTS of money." neighborhood (seriously, people living along the Island Walk must be very, very happy people). We then did a little exploring of Downtown (but again... same holiday issue) and after that went home again, totally drained out (which just told me I should do a LOT more outside walking).
Today, we visited the Vancouver Aquarium where I kind of fell in love with the sea otters (yes, occasionally I'm very easy to please) and the belugas did not laugh at me (unlike those at the Chicago Shedd Aquarium) and then walked a little through Stanley Park, found a nice café downtown and then went back to UBC campus because
schnelmi had some things to do in her lab. I saw the UBC bookstore (and again had a hard time believing that this was a university bookstore... maybe you must have had seen the university where I studied at to understand my confusion and bewilderment), finally bought some Galison stuff and then went to sit down in the Student Union building to wait for my sister. Originally I'd just wanted to read my brand-spanking new Star Wars book but then I got this... hunch and actually started writing a part of the evil!plot bunny
mackenziesmomma gifted me with. Yay :D But I forgot to stalk the flowers of DOOM at the Chan Center of Performing Arts :(
Tomorrow, my sister will have to do some lab stuff again which means I'll be on my own for about five or six hours and I still haven't really decided what to do. My sister suggested visiting Science World but that appears to be something you should be doing together with a friend or something. Additionally I'd love to see more of Kitsilano than simply driving through on the bus so that's on the agenda I think. Maybe also the Maritime Museum (since it's something I'm interested in but my sister is not) and Granville Island again (there's still this coffee cup...) and some shopping in Downtown (finally). Anyway, we'll see. Now I have to hand my sister's laptop back to her since she actually needs to do something sensible on it.
