Aaaand... it slides in.

Yep, referring to a Canadian TV commercial here that I just can't stop laughing about.

Anyway, where was I? Oh right, Vancouver trip. Here we go:

So... yesterday it did look a little like I wouldn't get out of the house until [livejournal.com profile] schnelmi was done with her lab stuff which would have been around 1600 or something and contrary to common believe I do like to be outside and do not prefer the computer to sightseeing. So, yes, I was a little peeved I missed the landlords leave the house (my sister didn't have a spare key for me and understandably didn't want me to leave the house without being able to actually lock the door) but just when I had resigned myself to having to stay inside... [livejournal.com profile] mackenziesmomma suggested something I could have thought of earlier and the landlords came back and suggested about the same thing mac had suggested... Anyway, that's how I got to visit Kitsilano even thought I wouldn't. And... yeah, I bought the pretty Canada coffee cup. Yes, I know I have a coffee cup problem.

Anyway, after that I was hit by the jeans luck downtown. You know, I've been searching for an affordable good-looking jeans for weeks back in Germany but didn't find any... and then my sister drags me into an Off The Wall store and boom, two great looking jeans, together still cheaper than one of those I found in Germany. Why exactly are jeans so insanely cheaper in Canada (okay, cheaper for me *coughs)? Another mystery that will probably never be solved. Oh, and I found a really nice sweater in pink (yes, me and pink do go together, even though I'm a redhead). Coming to think of it... do I really want to see the credit card bill for this month?

Anyway, where was I? Oh right, Vancouver. Today we went to see Capilano Suspension Bridge (it is a bit scary that I mentioned it on my twitter (without a hashtag) and then found the Bridge people following me when I came back) and the surroundings. Which is a really great idea for people who have issues with heights... like... you know... me. However, it turned out to be not half as frightening as it looked on pictures (but much more beautiful!) and I walked it twice (I had to, since otherwise I wouldn't have gotten to the souvenirshop, burger spot and last but not least bus stop for the bus home...). I also got all my stamps for the "I made it!" validation. Yay me!

Apart from that... um, yeah, shopping again *coughs But I got my cupcakes book. Yay! Though, sadly, we didn't get to the cookbook shop [livejournal.com profile] asugar mentioned :( I also didn't get to stalk the flowers of DOOM in the Chan Performing Arts building which is really sad because I so wanted to have a picture with me and the flowers (this, maybe, is something only Stargate and 4400 fans can understand). However, that just means I have to work harder to convince my sister to do her PhD at UBC as well.

And now that we're done with the sightseeing part, some conclusive remarks. Dear people of Canada, I really like you and you are very nice and very hospitable and everything... but there's one thing I really have to tell you: 13° by day and 3° by night (Celsius, that is... I'll never learn how to convert temperatures to Fahrenheit) do not make t-shirts-and-shorts-weather. They make windbreakers-and-scarves-weather. Seriously. Seeing you wear flip-flops when I wear trekking boots because it's just too darn cold for sneakers makes me shiver. It's also very confusing because when I'm inside and see you out there walking around in tees and short skirts I always have to remind myself that it's not 25° out there (like in Germany at the moment) but a lot less. Is that your British heritage, maybe?

Another thing I saw today in one of these gratis newspapers here. It was a picture about one of these "tea party" things in the US with people protesting against taxes and all that stuff. What really bugged me about it was that in it there was a woman holding a sign saying "Don't forget that everything Hitler did in Germany was legal.", quoting Martin Luther King. And that pissed me off to no end. Seriously... practically comparing the Obama administration with Hitler? So. Not. Funny. And stupid. And wrong on so many levels I can't even begin to cover them all. I thought comparing the GDR regime to the Third Reich was bad, but this? So, just a hint to all of you: Don't. Ever. Go. There. It's just... it's... I'll just stop here or I'll end up in a rant covering several pages and I really shouldn't bother you with that, I guess.

Okay, so... change of topic. Tomorrow it's back to Seattle, with a little stopover in Mt. Vernon to meet [livejournal.com profile] mackenziesmomma (whee, I'm already so excited!) and hopefully finding the hostel. On Saturday, I'll take the flight back to Germany via Paris Charles de Gaulle (with a stopover of seven fucking hours... that's gonna be fun) and be back in Berlin on Sunday. I think I'll get up some pictures on Sunday or Monday, depending on when I feel like uploading them to Photobucket ;)
