Amadeus, Amadeus... Rec me, Amadeus!

A couple rec requests because I got on another scoring run for impossibly small fandoms and/or rare pairings and didn't find enough of either to satisfy me.

#1 Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, William Brandt/Jane Carter. Saw it yesterday, and after I learned to pretend it wasn't Tom Cruise who played Ethan Hunt, I loved it. Also, Jeremy Renner is in it and boy, was I in love with his character the moment he appeared. No really. And then I went looking for fics and I ended up finding like four Brandt/Carter fics. Like, on the whole interwebs. If anyone has fics to rec for me that are neither on ff.net nor on AO3, I'd be very happy.

#2 The Hunger Games, Gale Hawthorne/Johanna Mason. Jesus fucking Christ, I've got issues with that trilogy. Like... massive ones. As massive as the Nut mountain thingy in District 2. I'm nearly finished and I want to throw the book against a wall at every other sentence (I'll explain why after I finish Mockingjay). But, I kind of fell in love with Gale/Johanna after a very short look into fanfiction on HG. I read there were grief and ruins, and you were the miracle. and Feel What It's Like To Be New and they are both awesome and I want more fics like that (which means: no actual appearance of either Katniss or Peeta and most of all no Katniss/Peeta because I just can't abide that pairing). Pretty please?

#3 The Avengers, Clint Barton/Natasha Romanoff. I haven't even seen the movie (and probably never will until it's out on DVD because there's not even one cinema that shows it in 2D in the entire fucking city. It's a city of 3.5 million people and God knows how many cinemas and none shows it in anything other than 3D *sobs quietly) but just from reading other people's accounts (most of all [livejournal.com profile] sangate's) I have a feeling it must be awesome. And I just love the idea of two very highly skilled but otherwise ordinary humans on a team of supermen and it just feels as if they'd fit each other very well. I did find a couple of fics but most of them felt OOC even for someone who hasn't seen the movie yet (that sounded pretentious, didn't it?). So does anyone have recs with Hawkeye/Black Widow that don't have them both be OOC? Yes? Anyone? Anyone at all?

This takes place in the comic book 'verse (so if you don't know it that well then it might be somewhat confusing) but it's really good. Making the Best of It

Fraternization is another good one, but it's a 'five times' fic (Steve/Clint, Bruce/Clint, Clint/Coulson and Clint/Tony in addition to Clint/Natasha)

It's OK, that's what Wikipedia is for :D Thanks!

but it's a 'five times' fic

Oh yeah, I came across that one and it took me a minute to remember that I don't read slash (so, err, I didn't. Read it, that is)...

that is true! and no problem, although on AO3 I feel that the Clint/Natasha section is sorely lacking...maybe that'll pick up once the movie hits. Like I said before, I'm mostly a Clint/Darcy shipper but yes, Clint/Natasha is pretty awesome since they're the only two people on the team who are "normal" (i.e. they don't have a "superpower" and have to rely on skills that they practiced for years to get).

I have no recs (I read very little. I know I know..), I just want to say I approve of your taste in men.

That is all.

I haven't even seen the movie (and probably never will until it's out on DVD because there's not even one cinema that shows it in 2D in the entire fucking city. It's a city of 3.5 million people and God knows how many cinemas and none shows it in anything other than 3D *sobs quietly)

Ich weiß *genau*, was du meinst.

Were those Carter/Brandt fics any good? And, if so, can you send the my way?

I have not immersed myself in THG fandom yet because I'm waiting to finish all the books, but as soon as I do, I'll send some recs your way. Of course, you'll probably be over it by then...

although on AO3 I feel that the Clint/Natasha section is sorely lacking...

Yeah, most of it is by one author (I guess this is how people must feel about my stuff when trying to find Lorne/Cadman...) and every time she starts out okay but later on there's always something that makes me go hit the back button *head desks

Haha, thanks so much :D

I think one was okay but had a few weaknesses but this one really bleew me away: Needy, Desperate, Greedy (http://archiveofourown.org/works/340314). It's like... smut without the actual smut :D

Of course, you'll probably be over it by then...

The way the books aggravated me? I don't think so ;) That reminds me, I need to write a rant review, now that I finally finished Mocking Jay...

my two cents

[identity profile] rodlox.livejournal.com 2012-05-11 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
IMHO...
having seen the movies, I don't know if I believe in Clint/Natasha ship. (I can read it, sure; even write a bit if asked)...but they seem more like two people who have put their lives in each others' hands so many times that they have implicit trust in one another. I can see how that could grow into love, but it hasn't reached that point yet, imho.

Unlike Tony "doesn't trust me as far as he can throw me" Stark, the other human on the team...who has neither the trust nor the love from them.

Stark doesn't have a superpower either...like Clint, he has hypertechnological weapons.
(unless there's others who have Hawkeye's bow-and-arrows) :)

Actually, we're in agreement here. I watched the movie today (my sister found a cinema that shows it in 2D...) and before I actually thought I might ship them less afterwards. I was wrong because boy, do I ship them now :D But, just as you said, they looked like they weren't... there yet.

I'm a little in love with their last scene, when the Avengers break up and she leans in to him and OMG that smile :D Okay, actually I'm so much in love with that scene that I just started writing a vignette for it...

the other human on the team

But a suit that kind of makes him a superhuman. Natasha and Clint have gloves and a talent for seduction and a bow respectively. It does make them seem different methinks.

if I can ask, what did you think of Natasha and Dr. Banner?

>they weren't...there yet.
I'm trying to find an analogy from the Stargate universes, for Natasha and Clint's level of interdependancy and strong mutual trust, and the closest I can come are -
* Teal'c and Brae'tac
* Jack and Hammond

oh...I thought Black Widow's power was agility and athletecism(sp) and acting (ie with Loki)...and knowing how to kill a man 18 ways with her pinky finger or 26 ways with a high heel.

yeah, the suit...one of these days, Jarvis is going to have Tony sit on the sidelines while Jarvis takes the suit on a mission. :D

>It does make them seem different
it does...but would they be allowed on the team if they couldn't keep up or hold their own with the superguys?

if I can ask, what did you think of Natasha and Dr. Banner?

I think I kind of just answered that in the third paragraph here (http://gelbes-gilatier.livejournal.com/300416.html)...

Or, okay, I thought there was some potential but ultimately, she sees him as a job at first and maybe a fellow soldier/agent/Avenger later and he's probably fascinated by her but it just doesn't feel as if they'd click in the end.

for Natasha and Clint's level of interdependancy and strong mutual trust

How about John Sheppard and Elizabeth Weir? Any shipping aside, I always thought they just... worked together, you know? They had their difficulties but I found that most of all in Season Three there was an underlying amount of trust that was just there, whether they were having differences or not.

acting (ie with Loki)

That's the seduction thing I meant. And if I got that right, she was also specifically trained in seduction to gather information as a spy.

Jarvis is going to have Tony sit on the sidelines while Jarvis takes the suit on a mission

You have no idea how much I want to see that now :D

but would they be allowed on the team if they couldn't keep up or hold their own with the superguys

I guess not and that's what makes them so awesome. I think I now want a prequel with Hawkeye and the Widow...

it'd be a fun date, anyway - Banner and Natasha. (ie this...when I wrote it, I was in a shippy mood, but its more the team implying they're an item, than any actual ship - I think)

>How about John Sheppard and Elizabeth Weir? Any shipping aside,
well, that's sort of what I was going for in my analogy: a a pair or team that has been working together a long time before there's even a thought of sleeping together.

>there was an underlying amount of trust that was just there, whether they were having differences or not.
that's key, and was in line with what I meant, yeah.

Tony sitting on the sidelines - that's on my to-do list now...very soon.
