Eurovision Song Contest, same procedure as every year. And... I don't get it. Why Sweden? Why? What was so special or great about that song that it won? I can't even remember the melody or lyrics and only barely the title ("Euphoria"... and I don't really get that, either. There was nothing euphoric about it, that much I remember...). What. I don't even. What?

Iceland, I would have understood. Their song wasn't such a bombshell as last year (I still can't stop listening to that song) but after one or two times of listening to it it had a lot of appeal and was certainly more special than Sweden. Also, it sounded a lot like Runrig. Maybe that helped, too...

Turkey, I would have understood, too and I would have loved that. There was so much joy in that song and you could see that the guy singing it had a lot of fun. It was so great just watching him and listening to him sing that song.

Russia, oh Russia. Your babushki... wouldn't that have been cool? Wouldn't it have been great if six grannies from Russia won the biggest entertainment event worldwide? I mean... that would have been almost greater than Lordy winning in their year. Maybe even greater than Lordy.

Cyprus, hell, even that would have been better than Sweden. I actually recognized that song, unlike the Swedish song. Can anyone of you remember the Swedish melody here? Because, as mentioned above, I can't for the life of me.

Ourselves, of course... even that was better. Actually, Roman Lob gave a hell of a performance and eighth place is to be respected as a very good result. He gave everything and he got rewarded for it and uh... I'd like to thank all countries that awarded him points :D

Anyway, the two countries I would have liked to win didn't even make it to the finals. Either Latvia (their song was the most meta song I ever heard, in a way... I mean, it's a song for the Eurovision Song Contest about a song for the Eurovision Song Contest...) or the Netherlands (because a girl with a guitar and in Native American dressup never sounded so good, and I'm sure the Native American getup had some meaning... oh, well, actually, I know the meaning of it. Huh.), that would have been awesome because both were songs with character and just a little... extra something. Which is why I'll embed both videos under the cut.

Two REALLY good ESC songs )

So, huh. I'm still not sure if signing up for [livejournal.com profile] het_bigbang with Clint/Natasha was a good idea but I keep having ideas for one-shots so I think it an't have been a completely harebrained idea, no? OK, actually, I'm currently writing a companion piece for Who Knows No Mercy (and Clint is killing me, probably because I am killing him with guilt. It's only fair then, I guess) and there's a vague press coverage bunny for Clint and Natasha that will be all [livejournal.com profile] workerbee73's fault if it ever gets written. Oh, and something about Maria Hill and Nick Fury and the thing with Coulson's Captain America cards because Fury being Fury didn't sit quite right with me (I do realize that he had to do that but I'd just love to write some Maria Hill fic and that seems like a good approach for it).

As for the big bang, I have to be honest. I just know that it's going to be post movie, that I want Steve Rogers to have a part (because something keeps telling me writing Hawkeye and the Widow from his perspective is going to give anything some kind of twist I don't want to miss) and that it's probably going to be mission fic. Other than that... I'm still working on it. It's also a good excuse for watching the movie again, on my own if I have to (I just remembered that I don't mind going to the cinema alone at all when I read [livejournal.com profile] inkvoices's last post so I'll probably just do that). Yes. Good plan.

And maybe all the Avengers stuff will help me to get back into my Stargate writing. Or I'll just try to have a complete rewatch of Stargate Atlantis. Actually, that sounds like a great idea. If I only had time head desks

Which Avenger Are You?
Black Widow / Natasha Romanoff
You are most like Black Widow. You are disciplined and dedicated, and have yet to face a challenge too big for your confidence. Being well rounded and active has helped you on the road to success. But despite your many activities and acquaintances, you are an independent creature, preferring to fly alone. You often push others away and trust only a very select few.

Frighteningly accurate, except for the whole "You are disciplined and dedicated, and have yet to face a challenge too big for your confidence." thing... no really, I feel like a slacker for most of the time :( I guess more of Natasha than "You often push others away and trust only a very select few." would do me some real good...

A couple rec requests because I got on another scoring run for impossibly small fandoms and/or rare pairings and didn't find enough of either to satisfy me.

#1 Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, William Brandt/Jane Carter. Saw it yesterday, and after I learned to pretend it wasn't Tom Cruise who played Ethan Hunt, I loved it. Also, Jeremy Renner is in it and boy, was I in love with his character the moment he appeared. No really. And then I went looking for fics and I ended up finding like four Brandt/Carter fics. Like, on the whole interwebs. If anyone has fics to rec for me that are neither on ff.net nor on AO3, I'd be very happy.

#2 The Hunger Games, Gale Hawthorne/Johanna Mason. Jesus fucking Christ, I've got issues with that trilogy. Like... massive ones. As massive as the Nut mountain thingy in District 2. I'm nearly finished and I want to throw the book against a wall at every other sentence (I'll explain why after I finish Mockingjay). But, I kind of fell in love with Gale/Johanna after a very short look into fanfiction on HG. I read there were grief and ruins, and you were the miracle. and Feel What It's Like To Be New and they are both awesome and I want more fics like that (which means: no actual appearance of either Katniss or Peeta and most of all no Katniss/Peeta because I just can't abide that pairing). Pretty please?

#3 The Avengers, Clint Barton/Natasha Romanoff. I haven't even seen the movie (and probably never will until it's out on DVD because there's not even one cinema that shows it in 2D in the entire fucking city. It's a city of 3.5 million people and God knows how many cinemas and none shows it in anything other than 3D *sobs quietly) but just from reading other people's accounts (most of all [livejournal.com profile] sangate's) I have a feeling it must be awesome. And I just love the idea of two very highly skilled but otherwise ordinary humans on a team of supermen and it just feels as if they'd fit each other very well. I did find a couple of fics but most of them felt OOC even for someone who hasn't seen the movie yet (that sounded pretentious, didn't it?). So does anyone have recs with Hawkeye/Black Widow that don't have them both be OOC? Yes? Anyone? Anyone at all?
gelbes_gilatier: (twenty pounds of crazy)
At Pottermore, that is. It's all [livejournal.com profile] hanseatic_keks's fault that I signed up and now I want other lemmings those on my flist who are Harry Potter fans to join! Anyone who's on there and here on the flist, add me (RuneMirror3850), please? Yes?
gelbes_gilatier: (Just another Lorne)
Because I'm a little lemming, I couldn't help click on the link to the Fanfiction Personality Test that [livejournal.com profile] yappichick had in her profile. Here's my result:

The Mindgamer

Everything is possible, nothing is ever really over.

Fanfiction is a creative outlet for you. You don't intentionally write it, it just happens. You find inspiration in several fandoms, but are not obsessed with only one.

You like to explore "what if" situations. What if this character had never made this very choice? What if this event had taken place sooner, never, elsewhere? What if these people had never met?

You are likely to write Alternative Universes, fan seasons or sequels and just follow your (sometimes pretty strange) plot bunnies.

And, just for the fun of it, the rest of the analysis:

You scored 46% on Slasher, higher than 18% of your peers.
You scored 57% on Weirdo, higher than 29% of your peers.
You scored 80% on TrueFan, higher than 87% of your peers.
You scored 84% on Mindgamer, higher than 92% of your peers.
You scored 69% on BarelyFF, higher than 85% of your peers.
You scored 32% on Immature, higher than 16% of your peers.

WTFseriously? Okay... What...ever...

So, after a little conversation with [livejournal.com profile] keylafirefly and an encounter with an origami frog army for my favorite co-worker (I wish I'd taken pictures. But then again... better not. It probably would have put me up right there with Parker *points to icon), I decided to do a collective order from KnockKnock to save shipping costs to Germany. Anyone on the flist living in Germany and wanting to spend their hard earned money on nonsense that'll label you as the office's Parker necessary office supplies, please tell me so in the comments and I'll put you on the list (haven't decided between Evernote and Delicious yet for the list. The hardships of modern life, I'm telling ya). This is important: you have until April 15 to tell me what you'd like to order. After that, I'll order and figure out how to send what to whom...

PS.: Anyone got any recs for fics for Smilla's Sense of Snow? I found myself with an insatiable craving during watching the movie on rbb tonight. Anyone? Please? Pretty please with a cherry on top?

GNAH!

Seen at [livejournal.com profile] rodlox's and [livejournal.com profile] hollymac79's journals:

I'm running a test to see who's reading my posts. So, if you read this, leave me a one-word comment about your day that starts with the third letter of your LJ USERNAME. Only one word please. Then repost so I can leave a word for you. Don't just post a word and not copy - that's not as much fun!
gelbes_gilatier: (Eliot)
(isn't that a great word? I just found it on www.leo.org. Salmagundi. It is a word of the English language, I shit you not.)

So. I just noted down every birthday fic wish in Evernote and Google Calendar so that I can actually remember whose birthday is when and who needs to be reminded to clarify their wish a little *hugs virtual rememberalls In case anyone who'd really like fic for their birthday hasn't seen it yet, go here please. Comments are screened so don't be surprised if I don't answer. Rest assured I note everything down.

Also, for everyone who'd rather have my works in e-book file format, I started posting at AO3. I'll try to find a balance between posting new stuff and catching up with ff net and LJ in regard to old works. And yes, I know I said it before but I will get back to posting new chapters of Raising the Stakes, Odd Man Out, Big Girl and Not in Kansas Anymore.

I also finished [livejournal.com profile] pingulotta's prompt for the Holiday Fic Request Meme 2011 and will hopefully get around sending it to [livejournal.com profile] mackenziesmomma for beta and post it. I'm just not very happy with it and I'm too chicken to go back and edit it currently :S I'm probably halfway finished with [livejournal.com profile] mackenziesmomma's last prompt as well but honestly? Charlie and Anna apparently don't like me writing smut about them. Who would have thought. Anyway, after that it's two prompts left and I hope that my manager will clear the suckage HR sicced on me so I can get to writing those during my leave at the beginning of February at the latest. Fear not, I still have you on my mind, [livejournal.com profile] hanseatic_keks and [livejournal.com profile] apinkpanthress.

PS.: Did you know Amazon.de asks you to receive a package with NC-17 content personally, including ID and all that? I didn't, which is why I'll have to time ordering Generation Kill on DVD very carefully now *head desks

ETA: Apparently, ordering Generation Kill (which is actually not NC-17 rated but M... WTH?) from amazon.co.uk helps to circumvent this entire personally receiving fuck-up shit amazon.de makes people who order UK imports go through (also, it's 13€ less than when ordering it on amazon.de. Including shipping fees. What the flying fuck?). Which is to say, I'll hopefully get my DVDs tomorrow! \o/ Also, [livejournal.com profile] hanseatic_keks mentioned play.com as another possible source for UK import DVDs because apaarently, they don't add shipping fees, not even when sending to Germany. Will definitely check it out next time I'm ordering from the UK. Thanks for the hint!
gelbes_gilatier: (Genius!)
First of all! Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] anuna_81! And happy belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] keylafirefly!

Second: a little twitter conversation with [livejournal.com profile] anuna_81 about birthday fics (I was a little sad LJ reminded me too early of her birthday - yes, I'm the woman with the second worst memory in the world - and told her I might have written fic if I'd remembered earlier and she told me I can still write it if I want) gave me the idea that I might offer this to everyone on the flist.

So, guys, if you want fic for your birthday, please leave a comment (comments are screened, in case anyone doesn't want to make it public) and a wish for this post and ye shall reap fic for your birthday because I have a mighty Google calendar to remind me of such things. And yes, [livejournal.com profile] mackenziesmomma and [livejournal.com profile] sgteam14283, for birthday fics, crack* is okay.

*Crack, a definition thereof: everything I need to do extensive thinking about to make it plausible. Plausibility and I are very good friends. Do not take plausibility away from me. I can try to write it if I need to work hard to make it plausible. I can and will not write it if it's impossible to make it plausible. Yes.
gelbes_gilatier: (things that make me go BOOM)

Good... *looks at clock evening. (New Year's Eve always screws everything about my inner clock)

Hope you all had a fun (and safe) New Year's Eve and didn't have too much of a hangover (or tinnitus) on New Year's Day. I got home 0600 or something, so I guess the party could be counted a s good one. But I have to stand correct myself. Last year, I said it was war where I celebrated New Year's Eve. This year, I can honestly say that it was worse than last year. Dude. Firecrackers that sound like hand grenades *shakes head But it was fun! And look what we did with sparklers (or, as we like to call them, wonder candles *giggles):

Oh, whoa. Too many to choose from, actually. I'd love to spend a day with Jo March, preferably on a New England winter day, with snowball fights and an evening of reading from books and telling stories in the March home. Or blowing shit up for a day with Laura Cadman. Or a day at Camp Half Blood with the bunch from the Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan. Or seeing the way the world was altered after the end of John Birmingham's Axis of Time trilogy, preferably in the company of Karen Halabi (since he killed off Jürgen Müller :P Oh, spoilers... oops).

I'm not sure if I'd like to meet Eowyn, seeing as how she and I bitched at each other during the last days when I tried to write [livejournal.com profile] sgteam14283's first prompt for the Holiday Fic Request Meme. But, ooooooh, I'd love to meet Sam Carter and Helen Magnus! I'd ask Sam how to become a soldier like her and how the hell she is so awesome and I'd never stop asking Helen about the centuries she lived in. She'd probably have to talk about WWI and WWII for at least a year or something and she'd be the best ressource ever for that WWII original story I still have on my hard drive (or my dad's NAS, since my laptop is still out of commission...). Oh yes, definitely Helen Magnus, over tea and biscuits (not cookies) by a blazing fire in the fire place in her library ♥

Give me a pairing and I will tell you:

1. What they most commonly do during sex
2. Who has prettier hair
3. What they argue about most often
4. Who'd cope best if the other one died
5. The happiest plausible happily-ever-after I can think of for them.

Also, remember to look up my fandoms in the interests if you aren't sure what you can request.

Also, of course all my OC pairings (and non-pairings) and pairings I don't actively ship but you'd still like to hear about are fair game (except slash, but you might try femslash).

No idea, and quite frankly, I don't care, either. Harry was never my favorite character - in fact, ever since Book Five I found him to be incredibly bratty and irritating - and I really couldn't care less what's he going to do or not do now. I always liked Hermione best and I'm an avid Draco/Hermione shipper (always was, always will be, don't ship anyone else... okay, apart from Orion and Lavinia in that magnum opus I'm writing with [livejournal.com profile] rareb) and quite frankly, the rest can go and hang themselves for all I care.

Why, yes, I'm still bitter about how Book Seven turned out, why do you ask?
gelbes_gilatier: (Oops.)
Because, you know, Japan won against Germany in the World Cup and that really is kind of sad and also a little bit of a shock. But then again I've seen Japan play before and they were awesome (about ten times more awesome than their guys...) because they were playing with a levity that was very nice to watch and the Germans were kind of... trying too hard this time around, or that's what it felt like. So it was probably a given that Japan would be the better team. Oh well... then now I'm just hoping Japan becomes World Champion. They have all it takes, I think. (also, a couple of them are playing for German clubs, mehehe)

And now I'll go clean this place up because [livejournal.com profile] rareb will come visiting on Monday \o/... or maybe I'll first get dressed and then I'll get the place cleaned up. Yeah. Ahem.
gelbes_gilatier: (baby.)
Group champion, whee! In the Women's Soccer World Cup preliminaries, that is. Quite honestly... Women's Soccer starts to become a lot more attractive than Men's Soccer, seeing as compared to the girls, the guys seem to be standing around on the field more than actually moving. Can't remember ever having seen such fast and dynamic soccer as I saw today in the Germany vs. France game (okay, maybe that has something to do with the fact that I'm not a regular soccer watcher and only watch the big events like Euro Cup and World Cup...) and I can't wait to watch the next one :D I'm not sure if they get to be World Champion for the third time (in a row!) but I'm pretty sure we're gonna get to see some really awesome soccer :D

On a side note: I am now at 9,136 words for [livejournal.com profile] het_bigbang which means at least I'll make the checkpoint in August \o/ I'm kind of starting to hope that maybe I can make that big bang after all...
