Remember that sore throat I mentioned when I said I'm back in Germany? It turned out to be tonsilitis. One that sent me to the ER on Sunday (I was a walk in, don't worry) and got me some pretty heavy antibiotics that apparently weren't only heavy on the tonsilitis but also on me (I never reacted to antibiotics like this before, I swear), made me sleep the entire Monday (mostly because the antibiotics and the jetlag wouldn't just let me sleep at night and gave me one of the worst nights ever), made me nearly faint in the bathroom on Tuesday (which was one of the creepiest things ever because I don't do fainting. Except when having someone drawing blood and even there it only happened once because I was stupid enough to look so no, still don't do random fainting) which probably was because I was still dehydrated and had low blood sugar from Monday and then ended me with new antibiotics on Tuesday from my regular ENT doc.

In the end, I also slept almost the entire Tuesday but at least I kind of could eat something in the evening and almost slep through the night so that's probably a plus. Throat's still sore but it's waning. And at least I don't have to sleep the entire day anymore. That said, expect story postings again. I'm hoping to do them in the next couple of days. And if you find any good Leslie Knope/Ben Wyatt stories, don't be afraid to tell me. Ever since that one ep of Parks & Recreation on the plane, I've been kind of binging on fics about them (when I wasn't sleeping, that is).

Am back.

In Germany, that is. Also, am sick. Pain in my throat, even when I'm not swallowing and no, dear sisters, this is not normal. It hurts like hell and I could cry continuesly just at the thought of having to go to work with this on Monday (which, BTW, is a national holiday. As in the national holiday. Think about this like having to work on Fourth of July in the US. Thank you, you assholes at scheduling). I'd wanted to go to my ENT doc with this today because they usually open on Saturdays... just not this Saturday. It's nice that the docs wanted to give the practice a long weekend but I might not have one because of that. I think I'm going to cry a bit more.

Or I'll see if this will solve itself until Monday morning (because it's oh so normal, as my sister reassured me) and if not, I'm going to call in sick and go to the doc on Tuesday. I just want this pain to end, please. Now.

On a more positive note: Het Big Bang is live! My story can be found here and the art for it that was made by the awesome [livejournal.com profile] yappichick can be found here. I will also get to publish it here in the next couple of weeks but right now, I'm just too messed up to even begin posting :S
gelbes_gilatier: (Gleeeee!)
Blergh. Just a short post today, mostly because I desperately need to get into bed and because the cold that was approaching me yesterday, is starting to take shape and because I did next to nothing today anyway. Basically, my day consisted of catching up with [livejournal.com profile] ancient_leah via MSN, translating a bit of the newest Minor Characters chapter, trying to ignore my sore throat, dragging myself outside to buy something to eat and something to fit the sore throat with (I just should have taken the hammer drugs, painkillers or not... guys, why does nearly everything in the US contain fucking painkillers when all we'd need are germ killers?), reading at least one of the books that [livejournal.com profile] mackenziesmomma brought me (they're short, one can very easily read them in one day) and editting the hell out of the big bang story. Which, by the way, I just sent away. An hour before the deadline is over. Yeah, that's me...

Anyway... I FINISHED EDITTING THE BIG BANG STORY AND SENT IT AWAY Y'ALL! It's as good as published! YAY!

Writing a blog entry for today, that is.

It was [livejournal.com profile] mackenziesmomma's and my second day at the Rosewood and it was spa time today. We both got a full hour massage and man, was that good. Seriously, that was awesome and I kind of want to have another one already, you know? We then took the car back to San Francisco and wanted to see the Golden Gate Bridge but it seems it's avoiding mac (I know it's not avoiding me because I actually got to see it on Tuesday and a bit of it on Wednesday, too) since it's the third time it was hiding from her in the fog (yes, fog, not mist, dear).

So instead we took the scenic road back to SF (the one from Take You Higher, just without the cops, you know) and returned the car to Hertz. We also got back into SF for lunch (which was kind of dinner, actually) and wanted to take the F Line to Fisherman's Wharf but there's this slight unfortunate detail that my hostel's neighborhood is... erm... interesting and I kind of didn't want to have to walk to it after dark so I bid mac goodbye at the BART station (yes, the Bay Area Rapid Transportion is abbreviated with BART) and then... well... headed off to Walgreens to get something against the sore throat I seem to have developed (probably a side effect of the A/C at the hotel and in the car... A/C and I apparently do not get along and I kind of forgot about that so it's not your fault, mac, just so you know). Let's hope it goes away in the next couple of days...

Anyway. Bunnies. Lots of goddamn bunnies. Most of all the aforementioned shower smut bunny and champagn bottle bunny and there's also a hot tub bunny (Tom and Maureen insist on it, I'm afraid) and a spa bunny and yeah, you get what this is about, right? Ngh.

Oh. Joy.

And another addition to the endless tale of my health fuck-ups. I'm at home for yet another week (because of an ear infection this time...). I'm not sure how to find this. Okay, so, it's another week's time for the [livejournal.com profile] het_bigbang fic and it's another week's rest for the ankle (which has turned into all kinds of shades of color, by the way...) but on the other hand - and yes, this does concern me the most, don't worry - I don't think my managers will be happy about it. And rest assured, I'm not happy about it either. Mostly because I just bet this is going to take impossibly long again. Those kind of things always do for me. Blergh.

And yes, once my mom finally left the place, I'll call the guys who messed up the whole university application thing. At least then I'll have an outlet for my frustration.
gelbes_gilatier: (twenty pounds of crazy)
Because I'm too stupid to walk down a couple of stairs. Yesterday, I wanted to sent off [livejournal.com profile] schnelmi from Hauptbahnhof and  was even kind of mindful when walking down the five storeys (I gave up wearing a bandage around the knee a couple of weeks ago because it was getting on my nerves and even despite it still hurting when trying to bend it further than a certain angle and sometimes also when walking etc. I figured it would never get better if I didn't give it the chance to work on itself actually). And then came, already outside, the very last step. Which was, in a quite literal sense, my downfall.

One moment [livejournal.com profile] schnelmi was asking if someone could take one of her bags and the next I step down, hear a weird noise and feel pain shooting up from my ankle. Then I'm sitting on my ass and thinking OMG THE FUCKING KNEE GOT HURT AGAIN I BET IT DID until I realize that the knee is basically fine (at least not worse than it was before) but that OMG THE FUCKING ANKLE FUCKING HURTS. It ended with me walking all five storeys back up again (no elevator... at all), putting the foot up and being none too happy about the egg that was growing out of my ankle.

So I limped to the doc's this morning (I'm just kind of glad they didn't laugh at me right away and ask why I actually kept trying to use my legs if I totally suck at it anyway...), got an x-ray (do surgeons have some kind of x-ray fetish? From the look of it it was pretty clear that it was most certainly not broken) and an AirCast for four weeks (he suspects a torn ligament... another one? *head desks) and sick leave for one week. Apparently, the rule now is "Every year another limb" *head desks

(I so totally need a head desk icon... I might have to steal this one from[livejournal.com profile] littlesammy

)

PS.: But maybe... I can get to write another SGA/Army Wives crossover this week. Mh...
gelbes_gilatier: (Whee)
The family left for a one week skiing trip to Norway that I couldn't accompany them on because a) I didn't know we could go on leave during the probabtional period and b) my knee is still way too fucked up to actually enjoy skiing. Remember, it happened in April last year... and today was the first day I had the feeling I could run more than five meters at a reasonable jogging trot... And here I thought I'd be done with that stupid business by January...

Anyway, enough of the whining (after all, pain is just weakness leaving the body), have another "30 Days" question!

First five (and I should get around linking them all together some day... done!):

1. Tell us about your favorite writing project/universe that you’ve worked with and why.
2. How many characters do you have? Do you prefer males or females?
3. How do you come up with names, for characters (and for places if you’re writing about fictional places)?

4. Tell us about one of your first stories/characters!
5. By age, who is your youngest character? Oldest? How about “youngest” and “oldest” in terms of when you created them?

Next one:

6. Where are you most comfortable writing? At what time of day? Computer or good ol’ pen and paper?

Creatures of the night, brought to light! )

PROBABLY some icky stuff. But really only very minor. Other than that... I hate being unemployed. )
gelbes_gilatier: (Pissed.)
because then I'd seriously be thinking about a malpractice suit. Anyone remember I got a referral to a knee specialist from my usual surgeon? Well, today was the appointment and let's just say... that guy could tell me more about my knee after five minutes of prodding and twisting and five more minutes of looking at the MRI pictures (yes, a surgeon with a suitable computer program for looking at MRI pictures... OMG it really exists!) than all the other docs after months of treatment.

So sick and tired... and did I mention I'm SICK AND TIRED? )
gelbes_gilatier: (Oops.)
I know it's Wednesday today but what happened on Monday afternoon still has me all riled up.

That knee business? Classic case of "Two step forward, one step backwards" *rolls eyes )

On the bright side, I finished the first birthday story for [livejournal.com profile] mackenziesmomma yesterday, and thank God she's an American so it still got to her on her birthday ;) I also finally finished my ten people, ten prompts meme story for [livejournal.com profile] ancient_leah as part of finally another Protect and Survive story which hopefully means I'm slowly getting back into the groove that Joe Mallozzi stole from me... well, that and that I might actually be able to write all the other stories I owe people from that meme as well ;)

And now I'll go and watch last week's Eureka ep (since the development of Zane/Jo still keeps me interested, even though they totally screwed up Jack/Tess (and yes, there will be fix it fic, I promise) and Fargo/Claudia squicks me out) and then last week's Leverage ep and that will hopefully cheer me up enough that I can then go on to writing job applications which means that I then can go on writing the next part of the apocafic 'verse (I called it Pandora's Box, BTW) without a guilty conscience. Mh, yeah, sounds like a plan.

So... I was at the surgeon's today again and got my referal for physical therapy (which is actually yay-worthy). I just made one mistake... I had a look at the diagnosis on the referal. It said "cruciate ligamente rupture" (to which I thought "Wait, wasn't it suspected rupture last time I checked?") and it also said "suspected tibia head fracture" (to which I thought "Wait... waitwaitwait, no one ever said anything about something being broken. Where did that come from, guys? And why do I have to look at the referal to see that? Why doesn't anyone actually talk to me about this?"). I actually... I don't know what to say anymore.

There's a joke here somewhere and it's on me... )

You remember the thing about the knee I posted yesterday? With the only problem being overstretched ligaments and capsules? And the yaying on it?

I might have been too fast with that. I just had a call from the surgeon who told me that the MRT practice apparently had another look at the MRT pictures again and decided that yeah, the meniscus is okay but hey... looks like the cruciate ligament is ruptured. Dear, doctors... THIS IS NOT FUNNY GODDAMMIT! So now I have to see the surgeon on Tuesday again so they can measure for a new splint. On the phone the surgeon said that the development of my symptons speaks against a rupture and for the overstretching but they want to be careful so I'll get one of those splints with joint for like... two months or something and they'll do another MRT. When I'm symptom free by that time and the MRT says everything's okay (or is as fuzzy as it was now... apparently, that stuff isn't REALLY reliable) everything will be okay. If not... arthroscopy. Yay. Or... not. Anyway, gotta go for my birthday present from [livejournal.com profile] schnelmi and [livejournal.com profile] heitidei
gelbes_gilatier: (rezensionen)
Because instead of looking for job ads, I decided to do a movie review... well, two actually. Since [livejournal.com profile] schnelmi is here on vacation I went to the cinema twice in one week. I really only go to the cinema very rarely because usually mom doesn't want to watch in English and I can bring myself only very rarely to watching them in German because for seven years I lived in a city where the only cinema you could watch movies in English was a tiny independent cinema... and when I go to the movies I want the big screen, not a screen that could fit into my living room... and I also have a totally unintellectual taste when it comes to movies I watch at the cinema (seriously, what do I need the big screen for psychological dramas or some independent movie everyone claims to find groundbreaking and no one really understands but would never admit to it?). When I go to the cinema, I want explosions, battle scenes, good looking half-naked men fighting... all the good stuff, you know?

Anyway, what I wanted to say: for seven years I lived in a city where I had to watch all the movies in German if I wanted to see them on the big screen... so now that I moved back to Berlin where we have the wonderful, wonderful Cinestar Original multiplex at Potsdamer Platz I just feel like it would be a waste of time and money not to use that and still go to see movies in German... but mom usually disagrees. However, [livejournal.com profile] schnelmi and I actually managed to trick her twice into accompanying us to a movie in English (apparently, letting her watch the first two Merlin seasons in English helped a lot in that) and here's what we watched:

Ask me nicely. - Robin Hood )

Give me that dagger! - Prince of Persia )

Oh, on a health related note: The cold is almost gone (although it'll probably start all over again in a while because now mom's got an even worse version of it and can't get it into her head not to hug and kiss us or drink from shared bottles and all that...) and I finally have an actual diagnosis for the knee. Apparently, I didn't scrape or rupture any ligaments (yay for that!) but rather just overstretched the inner ligaments and capsules. It'll just take a while for the knee to get normal again but I won't need any surgery or physical therapy, just a brace and no sports for a while. YAY!

Because, see, a friend of mine from TTW is here to visit me at the moment because we wanted to see Brandi Carlile in concert on Friday. Unfortunately, I didn't exactly feel up to a concert that involved more than sitting around and listening since the knee still isn't back on par (and I still don't know what's actually going on with it...) and the throat wasn't only aching but I also was coughing my heart out in the morning and sounded like someone after a concert should sound and not before (seriously, Rod Stewart and Bonnie Tyler have nothing on my voice right now)... well, basically, I was feeling like crap.

So slide over and kiss me, I got more than whiskey... wait... that song has nothing to do with the cut. GET OUT OF MY HEAD! )

PS.: Yes, you can still unlurk here.
gelbes_gilatier: (Not amused.)
Because, you know, it just turned out that May may be even worse. Okay, so the knee happened in April but the worst thing about it - the answer to the question if there's something seriously wrong with the meniscus or not - is yet to come (May 14th is the MRI appointment... one day before my birthday). Also, as of yesterday, I'm on antibiotics because of a %&$&ing throat infection. There's also the matter of The Letter, meaning I just got a refusal from the Foreign Office (which also means that I can't apply for that kind of career path again) just today. And when I thought things really couldn't any get worse, the laptop decided to act up with completely new shenanigans, giving me the very, very, very bad feeling that its end is near (please, laptop, don't do this to me... please just DON'T! Tell me that it was just a blip, okay? Yes? PLEASE?).

Seriously, how long and how bad is the "It has to get worse" part of "It has to get worse before it gets better" supposed to be? Because right now, I could use some "it gets better", just enough to make me keep believing that one day in the near future things will look a lot brighter. That's all I'm asking for. Is that really too much?
