Because I need something to bribe my beta into betaing again... another "30 Days" post!
Since I vaguely annonced in one of my latest story posts that I would do another "30 Days" post in the next couple of weeks and I have a spare day today and
mackenziesmomma poked tentatively asked me to write one, I'm hereby doing exactly that (even though I'd rather like to write a post on how stupid the statement "There are only very few "legal" ways to stalk a person" is, seeing as
rareb and I once found out real name, real address, real trained for job and real current job of a girl from that forum with only her forum nick and forum profile in a little unter 30 minutes... but I guess there will be time for that later). Yes. But first of all, all answered questions:
1. Tell us about your favorite writing project/universe that you’ve worked with and why.
2. How many characters do you have? Do you prefer males or females?
3. How do you come up with names, for characters (and for places if you’re writing about fictional places)?
4. Tell us about one of your first stories/characters!
5. By age, who is your youngest character? Oldest? How about “youngest” and “oldest” in terms of when you created them?
6. Where are you most comfortable writing? At what time of day? Computer or good ol’ pen and paper?
7. Do you listen to music while you write? What kind? Are there any songs you like to relate/apply to your characters?
8. What’s your favorite genre to write? To read?
9. How do you get ideas for your characters? Describe the process of creating them.
And that's the current one:
10. What are some really weird situations your characters have been in? Everything from serious canon scenes to meme questions counts!
First of all: most of the really weird situations were other peoples' faults. Mostly
rareb's, by the way. Seriously, I mean it. They're almost all her fault. They were all her weird bunnies and then she sicced them on me, like, for example the whole idea of shooting range smut in The Whole Nine Yards. Or Evan Lorne standing half-naked in front of Laura Cadman's door in the middle of the night in Tangerine Dreams and Marmelade Skies. Or, and that's probably the most evil bunny of all, the whole tutus and combat boots thing in In the Mood for a Dance. I swear, all of those were mac's fault!
Mostly, of course, because I seem to lack that out of the box creativty that she seems to have in abundance whereas I am more of a conventional and conservative person when it comes to writing, it seems. I'm pretty good at romance (good enough that I took it upon me to teach some Writing Romance 101 classes to an aspiring and promising young German author... or maybe it's just hybris on my part) and I'm really good at emotional whump (when it comes to torturing people, I seem to be pretty inventive all of a sudden...) but I'm not doing well at crack. On my own, I mean. If I'm supplied with the right idea (mostly curtesy of mac), I can write it. But I do lack the actual ideas. So thank God for mac :D
As for other weird situations... oh, Rodney McKay asking Dusty Mehra on a date in an answer to a meme request made by
scherryzade . That was a lot of fun to write (also, it forced me to cut down all unnecessary things in the text until it would fit comment guide lines... that's a good thing, I swear), even though writing Rodney always exhausts me. Other than that... mh. Not sure. Maybe also Parker and Eliot in Take You Higher.... or maybe the really weird situation for that would have to appear in a possible sequel. I should really write one, shouldn't I?
Oooh, and of course Maureen Reece and Thomas Moore in Minor Characters I: Odd Man Out, because if body switching isn't weird, I don't know what is... (I also have a feeling they won't ever forgive me for doing that to them... and maybe I should someday take the time to write a litle tag for that, seeing as I never really did refer back to it in later stories). Well, okay, and maybe A Rugged and Ready Crew because having to play American Football with a team of US Marines is a very weird situation for a German Army doctor. Even one who went on very dangerous and strictly not spoken about missions with a German Army Special Forces team in Afghanistan (Morsberg still hasn't fully forgiven me for that one, either, by the way... the football game, not the Afghanistan thing).
Okay, I think that were all... or does anyone have other ideas? Any suggestions? Any stories of mine you found deserved the label "weird situation"? Tell me!
11. Who is your favorite character to write? Least favorite?
12. In what story did you feel you did the best job of worldbuilding? Any side-notes on it you’d like to share?
13. What’s your favorite culture to write, fictional or not?
14. How do you map out locations, if needed? Do you have any to show us?
15. Midway question! Tell us about a writer you admire, whether professional or not!
16. Do you write romantic relationships? How do you do with those, and how “far” are you willing to go in your writing?
17. Favorite protagonist and why!
18. Favorite antagonist and why!
19. Favorite minor that decided to shove himself into the spotlight and why!
20. What are your favorite character interactions to write?
21. Do any of your characters have children? How well do you write them?
22. Tell us about one scene between your characters that you’ve never written or told anyone about before! Serious or not.
23. How long does it usually take you to complete an entire story—from planning to writing to posting (if you post your work)?
24. How willing are you to kill your characters if the plot so demands it? What’s the most interesting way you’ve killed someone?
25. Do any of your characters have pets? Tell us about them.
26. Let’s talk art! Do you draw your characters? Do others draw them? Pick one of your OCs and post your favorite picture of him!
27. Along similar lines, do appearances play a big role in your stories? Tell us about them, or if not, how you go about designing your characters.
28. Have you ever written a character with physical or mental disabilities? Describe them, and if there’s nothing major to speak of, tell us a few smaller ones.
29. How often do you think about writing? Ever come across something IRL that reminds you of your story/characters?
30. Final question! Tag someone! And tell us what you like about that person as a writer and/or about one of his/her characters!

PS.: BTW, if you (not you,
mackenziesmomma because you'll sic them on me anyway) have any suggestions for cracky or at least weird stories, don't hesitate to tell me. I might write them after all :)
PPS.: Also, I think I just developed the wish to see other peoples' characters in really weird situation, such as
ancient_leah's Team Kemp, for example. Mh...

welllll...there is one that sometimes occurs to me, on teh edges of sleep:
Parker and H.G.Wells arguing over what to do with what they're about to liberate from a museum. (I'd cross that out, but you can do better than this)
that or what's on Wells' tombstone: "God damn you all, I told you so!"

Also, you did very well in your own attempt. Really, you did!
