well of course Avatar gets the Golden Globe - most years, the Awards are won by those movies still fresh in the voters' minds...usually the ones that came out close {in time} to the Awards.

the story I heard, was that Cameron wrote the outline several years ago, before the tech was able to make Avatar - and when the tech existed, the outline served as the script.
(yeah, I know, there's not a facepalm big enough for that)
