But this one especially *pouts a little more (I really wondered why in hell they couldn't get a decent screenplay writer with a budget of over 300 Mio. Dollar...)

the story I heard, was that Cameron wrote the outline several years ago, before the tech was able to make Avatar - and when the tech existed, the outline served as the script.
(yeah, I know, there's not a facepalm big enough for that)
