First question was:

1. Tell us about your favorite writing project/universe that you’ve worked with and why.

And this is how it continues:

2. How many characters do you have? Do you prefer males or females?

Short answer: TOO FUCKING MANY!

Long answers: Can I skip the counting? Because, yes, I do have accumulated a lot of characters during almost 15 years of writing and almost ten years of publishing. There are Evan Lorne and Laura Cadman as canon characters, Thomas Moore, Laura Greenspan, Maureen Reece and Simon DeLisle as original characters, along with Joe Simmons, Robert McPherson, Will Meyers, Matthias Morsberg and several other original characters in my Stargate stories, there are Jenna Melara and Xanas Farrayn as original characters in my Star Wars stories, there's Lavinia McNeil in my Harry Potter story, there are Kara Thrace and Lee Adama in my BSG stories, Eliot Spencer and Parker in my Leverage stories, Kate McAffee and Matthew Spears in my WWII orginal story... and that's really only a small part of the characters I have written or still write.

As for preferences... it may look like I prefer writing males (since they outweigh the female characters in the count) but the truth is that I usally write stories that are set in male dominated environments like the military which makes it nearly inevitable to have more male characters than female characters. But I generally prefer to have female characters as protagonists. I can and do write male characters but I feel more at ease with female characters. And since I started writing mainly because it was the best way to ensure that I get to read exactly the stories I want to read, all my stories include strong (if always flawed) female leads.

That is to say, a lot my stories are more or less ensemble stories or duets but in my head, the leading character is usually a female character, simply because I feel more at ease with writing women and because I still think that this world needs female leads in fiction badly. I admit that not only other people's female characters are role models for me but also my own female characters (mainly Laura Cadman (um, yes, I know, preposterous, but I do consider the Laura Cadman I write to be my character), Jenna Melara and Lavinia McNeil) and I hope to contribute to the range of female role models girls all over the world have with them. Yes, I really, really do. What do you mean, delusions of grandeur?

Anyway, regardless of whether I like to write females or males better, I hope people like all my characters (at least those they're supposed to like ;)) and will continue liking them. Because, you know, I do... even if I usually sometimes do terrible things to them.
