to everyone on the f-list! I hope you all had the party you planned to have and that whatever you did on New Year's Eve was fun.

We, for our part, were apparently in a war zone. For all those people who have never been in Germany on New Year's Eve, let me tell you that it's kinda like in the US on July 4th or maybe even worse (or better, depending on your point of view). That is to say, it seems like some people save their money all the year, only to spend it in a glorious heap of explosions and BOOMs at the end of it (and yes, my family is no exception to that). About a week before New Year's Eve the sound of minor explosions can be heard sporadically, and the amount increases steadily until New Year's Eve, even though using fireworks is officially forbidden until 1800 on New Year's Eve and you can't buy fireworks before the 29th. I do have a feeling that some people deliberately buy more than the plan to use so they can have a kind of warm-up phase.

Anyway, this year we decided to make our New Year's Eve party also a house warming party for [livejournal.com profile] heitidei's boyfriend. The flat is in a Wilheminian style house in a very narrow street where those kind of houses are built wall to wall and it's quite an... experience on New Year's Eve. It feels kinda like... yeah, a war zone, most of all because apparently a lot of people decided to throw the "Better safe than sorry" rule out the window and bought their fire crackers and rockets and whatnot in Poland (the Polish border is maybe an hour or two away from Berlin) where the fire crackers aren't exactly safe but loud (seriously, fire cracker is totally a euphemism for the sound they make... shouting "FIRE IN THE HOLE!" when throwing one should be mandatory...). I can honestly say that in all the past 28 New Year's Eves I never saw one like that, fireworks wise. I do hope [livejournal.com profile] heitidei will send me a few pictures so I can post them here.

In other news, I decided not to make any resolutions, just some wishes, such as (in no particular order):

  • being a little more successful on the job front this year
  • finishing The Government Conspiracy Job (aka Fred the Monster Bunny) and all those other Protect and Survive stories that are still ghosting around in my head
  • writing at least one more multi-chapter Minor Characters story (I do have one in my head that I'm itching to write since the focus is on Dee (and the Major) for the first time since I started writing them)
  • making a lot of progress on my WWII original story (if anyone besides [livejournal.com profile] mackenziesmomma wants to have a look at the existing chapters, please say so)
  • posting fic (that is fic I already wrote and posted on ff.net) more regularly on ff.de and here (all those Protect and Survive stories and Minor Characters stories definitely belong here as well, methinks)
  • improving my knitting by finally learning how to knit sock heels
  • reading more than in 2010 (which shouldn't be too difficult, seeing as I read maybe 20 or 30 books that year...)
  • getting a grip on the knee business and getting back into fencing and judo, if possible
  • generally improving my time management so I can find more time for writing, reading, knitting and all those other things that aren't my job

So... how was your New Year's Eve party (or not party) and what do you expect of 2011?
