This just came over the GateWorld twitter:

For those just tuning in: http://bit.ly/f2HLNr. SGU, SG-1, SGA movies all mothballed. #Stargate in Vancouver effectively shutting down.

To be honest, I feel a little sadder than I thought I would. It's the end of an era, after all, and I've been a fan from Children of the Gods on. Actually, SG-1 was what got me into reading fanfic (not writing... that was Star Wars, four years before I started publishing) and maybe even into fandom (although my very first fandom forum was a LOTR forum). I still remember my first SG-1 fanfic (but I'm too stupid to find it again... if anyone could help me: it was from a series, Twelve Hours, Twelve Days, Twelve Months and Twelve Years, I think but I totally forgot the author and probably even the archive... I think it was Heliopolis but I honestly am not sure :S) and most of my delicious bookmarks are - and probably will always be - Stargate stories.

I had times of absence but when SGA came to the screen I fell in love with Stargate all over again. I will never like SGU, I think but I might like parts or characters of it (I may even go back to watching it when it's finished so [livejournal.com profile] rodlox  can have the Greer/Parks story he asked me for... I even might have a song for it already :D) and I certainly will continue reading the Legacy series by [livejournal.com profile] jo_graham[livejournal.com profile] mescott and [livejournal.com profile] amygriswold. For me, Stargate is neither dead with this announcement nor forgotten. So will all you doomsday prophets who are talking about "letting it go" and "the franchise being dead" and "OH MY GOD THIS IS THE END!" please stop doing it?

Because, see, just because there (hopefully) won't be any more Stargate on screen, except for reruns... it doesn't mean it's dead. What kind of fans are you people? Do you honestly believe that only because you don't see things happening in screen Stargate is gone? Seriously? Oh Jeez. Please don't tell me that there really are people narrowminded enough that they can only be fan of something on screen. I really don't know about you but lately, I had to go and find some really good fanfic to stay a fan whenever I saw Stargate on screen. Yes, it was that bad.

So... despite being a little sad about it... I'm glad we finally get some closure on screen canon and Stargate is all the fans' and that we know can all live according to Frederik the Great's "Ein jeder soll nach seiner Facon seelig werden." ("Every man must go to heaven in his own way") and there will never be any new Stargate screen canon from those idiots Mallozzi or Gero again. Thank. God. In Heaven. It's ours now, guys, JUST OURS! Let's celebrate that! (okay, after being a little wistful and wallowing in the good old times when everything was still right in the fandom world, granted ;))
