Most important thing for relocating?

A to do list. Here's mine:

• engage shipping company
• cancel telephone contract
• cancel public transportation ticket
• cancel electricity contract
• cancel cable contract
• cancel membership in fencing club
• give notice of departure to local registration office
• give notice of departure to local party office
• clear out kitchen
• clear out bedroom
• clear out bathroom
• clear out cellar
• pack crates
• order mail forwarding
  
• call landlord regarding handing over of keys and renovation of apartment
• make list of everyone who needs to be told new address
• check numbers on counters for water and electricity

Okay, did I forget anything? Suggestions, please.

I think you listed all the important things. And now I'm starting to freak out because I have to do to the same things in a couple of weeks. Eek! Good luck for everything! And don't forget to eat and sleep once in a while. That's usually the first things I forget when moving. ;)

Forgetting to sleep won't be a problem... but yeah, eating could become an issue (I'm not exactly a healthy eater under normal circumstances so unusual circumstances certainly won't make it better) so thanks for the hint ;)

put out trash one last time?
water, gas company?
write down the numbers on the counters (electricity water gas) and put safely away too, just in case they get back to you afterward with more bills.
I also had my doctors put together my medical records to go, but then we moved overseas.
empty freezer and defrost?
attic/cellar rooms?

Well, I plan to move at the end of the month, so last time for trash is still a while, water and gas was in the contract so hopefully the landlord will take care of it... numbers on the counters is a good hint! Cellar is also very important, since I almost never go down there but have some stuff lying around. Thanks for the hints!
