Agreed on Avatar. Everything I've heard about it makes the plot sound uber American manifest destiny.

It is... and I still wish I'd gotten to watch Hurt Locker instead. Seriously, Avatar (aka Pocahontas in Space And Much Too Long) sucked, and then Cameron even killed the only two cool characters off. Also, I have the burning wish to talk to said former co-worker and set him straight on a few things of American culture...
