Okay, Mr. Mallozzi, I am done with you.
Jul. 16th, 2010 03:26 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
For a while... I could really ignore you because I was happy in my cosy little niche of fandom because I knew SGA was over and Extinction was practically shelved anyway, so I knew you very probably wouldn't get a chance at fucking it up even more. Season Five was the worst season ever and I was actually happy that it was over because I thought it meant you'd keep away from it.
And then you had to go and announce a crossover with SGU.
Are you fucking out of your damn mind? SGU is crap and I'm finding it almost revolting that you're trying to bribe the old guard of fans (who, majorly, can't stand SGU) with SGA to keep the stupid little BSG rip-off running a little while longer. Also, stick that stupid blog post (no, I won't give a link here because I don't want to give you more readers than you deserve) up your ass, you idiot. You aren't really insinuating that Atlantis is going to stay in the Milky Way, right? She won't stay there until all eternity instead of going back where she (and her crew, by the way) belong. We loved her in the Pegasus galaxy and I don't see why she shouldn't get back.
But that's not even what pissed me up most. That was the tiny little sentence "Will there be any personal revelations about Major Lorne?" No, there hopefully won't. Because yes, I still remember your post about a gay character on Atlantis and yes, I have very fine-tuned alarm bells in my head. And I don't want you to make Lorne gay as canon.
Don't get me wrong, I don't mind people writing him gay in fanfictions (me liking both
bluflamingo's and
scherryzade's stories should be testimony to that) because - wait for it - most of them are doing it right. They incorporate all the implications, the misgivings, the complications and the moral dilemmata that come with being a gay servicemember. You, Mr. Mallozzi, however... no, I don't trust you with that kind of very sensitive thing. Timeline wise, Lorne would still fall under "DADT but fire anyway" and thus would be a civilian in your stupid corssover and out of the program and seriously people... can anyone of you see Lorne risking his career in that way? Anyone?
Yes, I know I'm writing Lorne/Cadman with non-frat regs intact and yes, I did bend them in the Protect and Survive series (and in several other stories as well, just not with a backstory that explained how and why they were altered for Atlantis, like in PAS) but... I'm a fan. What I write doesn't constitute canon. It's just my version and it doesn't constitute any rules for anyone else (unless other people write in universes I more or less created which has happened... but
ancient_leah was really considerate and did a very, very good job). You, though, as a writer who gets actually paid and whose version of events and characters is going on the screen have a responsibility. You're the one setting rules for a lot of fans and, interestingly enough, the really serious fans, those who really love the show (and buy the DVDs, go to cons etc. by the way) obey them.
So... no, I don't want you to give us "personal revelations" about Lorne (or, on a closer look... any SGA character at all but that's a different story and shall not be addressed tonight) because I lost trust in you that you'll do it right, whatever it is (i.e. not only possibly being gay (which, no doubt, would be the one you could fuck up most at, though) but also being married, divorced, widowed, have a kid etc.). Remember, you guys where the ones who fucked up such a simple (well, in comparison for a gay servicemember on active duty in such a high-profile environment as the Stargate Program, I mean) thing as a heterosexual romance. You don't have what it takes to make an openly gay Lorne canon and I don't want you to fuck around with the highly controversional and sensitive issue that is DADT on screen. Or anywhere else.
Which, in the end, is why I'm done with canon Stargate (and you, Mr. Mallozzi, in particular). Earlier today I realized I'm fully done with SGU, and I quit reading the damn blog already a few months ago (only got to those news through
mackenziesmomma). I will now also definitely not watch Extinction (if it's ever going to be made anyway) and I'll hopefully get around everything involving the Crossover From Hell. I may read the Legacy series
jo_graham is involved in but only because she said it's not canon canon so it's rather glorified fanfiction and I don't see anything wrong with that (which is just another testimony as to just how fed up I'm with Stargate canon) but other than that I'll stay away from all and any official and/or unofficial sources of Stargate news. I'll stick to everything that happened until Enemy at the Gate, but that will be it. I'm just so fed up with it all.
And then you had to go and announce a crossover with SGU.

Date: 2010-07-16 11:36 am (UTC)Well, first I knew it was inevitable that they would some day cross with SGU. Since the last two/three episodes weren't that bad (not good enough to buy the DVDs, though, or watch them in English), I may give them a chance in the second season (when it airs in Germany, that is). And there's always the pretty of Robert Carlyle & Amanda Tapping & O'Neill... I'm drifting away.
No, not so far, I'm pissed that they don't show much of O'Neill as the general in control, as a superior officer and not as the nice to-go guy we know from SG-1, it would be interesting. If they'd show him that way. Heck, they even did it better in The Return on SGA.
Lorne. When I went over to read the entry and this bit. Hell. There's been always the suspicion that he's the one but WHAT, I don't think they do handle it actually well. And there I am, also a Lorne-fan, who doesn't see him risking his career this way.
Oh well, I haven't been very active with Stargate. I haven't watched any episode for a while. It's all the way to fucked up for me now.

Date: 2010-07-16 01:16 pm (UTC)Thank you! Even if he were gay, he'd never actually come out, not while he's still on active duty. He wouldn't want to put Sheppard and Woolsey through the moral dilemma they'd have to face over this and he wouldn't want to risk his career. If he decided to come out after all, he'd first resign his commission and then do it. I just can't see him provoking/risking a dishonorable discharge or a discharge at all over this.
But knowing Mallozzi they'll do it wrong. If it had been Binder writing Extinction I might have been able to cut them some slack and give them the benefit of a doubt (because I always had a feeling he actually liked Lorne as a character and took care in writing him) but with Mallozzi in the lead? No. Just no.

Date: 2010-07-16 08:17 pm (UTC)A friend told me the "news" about the crossover and I went like "WTF!"
Somehow I'm very saddened by all this. :(

And oh, funny, my not so friendly (but certainly not offensive) comment on JM's entry still hasn't made it through the moderation queue... I think I posted it somewhere around 1400...
Also, until now I've seen mabye five or so comments (out of 127, mind you) that aren't jumping with joy and... I just can't get it into my head that this is really how fandom thinks. Really? They want TPTB able to fuck around with SGA again? Do they?

Date: 2010-07-18 01:59 pm (UTC)I think everybody who isn't pro-SGU simply stopped visiting the blog (like me) because it's no use. The not-so-friendly comments don't get posted, and all you ever get in the end is another disappointment or a I-want-to-hit-something moment.

Yeah, exactly... if he would at least deal with criticism in a mature way (the man's an established screenwriter in his 40ies, for Heaven's sake)... but alas, he can't. Wouldn't be all that bad if he just blogged about food and books and would keep his damn hands off SGA but since he doesn't... I'm actually hoping for a miracle, like MGM getting sold to someone who also thinks the crossover and the movies are bad ideas and will shelve them for all eternity or something like that.

I would love for the movies to be made because Atlantis deserves a real ending - but not if it means messing with our favorite character(s).
off topic BUT LOOK!

SUCH a gorgeous shot of them. Hopefully it inspires the plot bunnies to multiply.
