So now that the World Cup 2010 is over and everyone's doing recaps and what not... I thought maybe I should, too.
Well, then...
THANK YOU SO MUCH GUYS
YOU MADE THIS SUMMER GREAT
AND WE LOVE YOU FOR THAT!
We love you for great soccer and we love you for being so darn fucking cute and we love you just for being you! We love you for four weeks of black-red-golden craziness (yes, I damn well do, go fuck yourself all you boring German left-wingers with a stick up your backside) and for not being sore losers and for giving the best of the best! We love you for delighting us and - what's almost more important - the world with your spirit and your cuteness! We love you for making the world - and what's even more important - us like Germany and being German again!
And I for my part have four extra declarations of love to make:
I love you, Jogi Löw, for making a team out of those players. I love you for making German soccer something people all over the world admire instead of fear or make fun of. I love you and Hansi Flick, your co-coach, for always wearing the same clothes at a game. I love you for being so understated in interviews and press conferences and a howling derwish during the game. I love you for taking bold tactical and personnel decisions, even though they aren't always popular or right. Please, stay with the team. The team needs you for 2012 and 2014.
I love you, Arne Friedrich, for making your first goal in an international match in the game against Argentina and for hugging Per Mertesacker and for... for being you. We will really miss you at Hertha this Bundesliga Season and wish you all the best in Wolfsburg. But... if Hertha manages to get back to Erste Liga (Premiere/Major League for those of you who don't speak German)... please come back? Yes? Say you will, please!
I love you, Thomas Müller, for becoming the WC's top scorer and getting the Young Player award and still being so excruciatingly young and also unpretentious in your manners and your whole bearing. I love you for marrying your highschool sweetheart and being so normal. I love you for giving us some of the most beautiful goals of the WC 2010. I love you for being the new face of German soccer and not losing your head and your youthful charm over it.
I love you, Manuel Neuer, for not being an English goalie ;) I love you for surprising us with your progress througout the WC and for not budging under the pressure the public put on you after Löw's first choice as a goalie became unavailable. I love you for keeping a cool head in sticky situations. And I love you for being way more likable than Jens Lehmann or Oliver Kahn :D You rock!
So... now that it's over... I'd just like to remind everyone (including myself) that next year, Germany will host the Women's Soccer World Cup and that we should give the girls the same treatment we gave the guys in 2006: LOVE THEM AND CELEBRATE THEM! Oooh, I'm looking forward to it!
Well, then...
