_On this day (at least, an hour from now by my clock), we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the flight of Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, who, on April 12, 1961, became the first man to orbit the earth. He blazed the trail for the future of the human exploration and conquest of space. May his memory live on in our hearts and minds, to inspire us to further our knowledge of and dominion over the universe!

Yuri Gargarin was one of my childhood heroes, along with Valentina Terezhkova and Claus Graf Schenk von Stauffenberg. Yesterday, a German PBC station interviewed random people on the street and there were really people who didn't know that name. It made me very, very, very sad to hear that and I'm so happy that
