No idea why I just decided to write another "30 Days" entry but... why the hell ever not? It's certainly better than wondering however German politics could turn into what they're today, for example. That is to say, the Conservatives suddenly trying to defend the decision against military action and the social democrats suddenly arguing they should have agreed... and me agreeing with the social democrats. I usually don't agree with social democrats. I agree a lot less with the Greens (almost never, actually... stupid disgusting two-faced coalition whores, the whole lot of them. What? They are!) but I don't agree very often with the social democrats, either. But this time I do. More than I agree with my own party, the socialists. Very confusing, all of this.

So let's move to something a lot less confusing. Talking about writing! Yeah, I can do that!

First of all the questions I already answered:

1. Tell us about your favorite writing project/universe that you’ve worked with and why.
2. How many characters do you have? Do you prefer males or females?
3. How do you come up with names, for characters (and for places if you’re writing about fictional places)?

4. Tell us about one of your first stories/characters!
5. By age, who is your youngest character? Oldest? How about “youngest” and “oldest” in terms of when you created them?
6. Where are you most comfortable writing? At what time of day? Computer or good ol’ pen and paper?

Next one:

7. Do you listen to music while you write? What kind? Are there any songs you like to relate/apply to your characters?

Look what they done with my song, ma... )
gelbes_gilatier: (Whee)
Because I don't have anything better to do (apart from trying to decide which fandom auction to offer for... oh, and FUCKING STARTING TO WRITE THAT APPLICATION FOR THE MILITARY STUDIES MA DEGREE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF POTSDAM *rolls eyes at self) and post, have another meme (and yes, I already set my mind on posting the next "30 Days" entry, [livejournal.com profile] mackenziesmomma) that I stole from half my flist:

Ask me about a pairing (or character) I have written (or haven't and you think I should write) and I will give you five facts about them or a ficlet or a song that is CLEARLY THEIR SONG or what they order from the Chinese place down the street, etc, etc.
gelbes_gilatier: (WTH?)
If I threw in my lot with [livejournal.com profile] help_japan, I mean. I've thought about doing something like this when Haiti happened and when Chile happened and when Australia happened and when Christchurch happened... but for some reason Japan really... I don't know. Maybe it's the utter humility and order with which the Japanese bear all this and the pictures I just can't believe. Maybe I'm just fed up with just watching and never doing anything.

Whatever it is... would you help me and bid? Or just cheerlead me into doing this? Come on, I need people kicking my ass, even though I already know what to do and what is right. What do you think?
gelbes_gilatier: (REALLY pissed off.)
Because, see, I'm kind of tired of pussyfooting around in a certain part of German Stargate fandom. Yes, I think that "Oh, but it's just a hobby!" and "If i'd have to write realistically, I could only write about what I know and that would be boring." are stupid bullshit excuses for laziness and a lack of interest in the sujet you're writing... which is kinda weird because uh, isn't writing something you need to be passionate about, in every aspect of it (i.e. from your characters to the setting, the plot and the language)?

Not for the faint of heart... and those who think they can only be my friend when I'm being all nice. )
gelbes_gilatier: (Whee)
The family left for a one week skiing trip to Norway that I couldn't accompany them on because a) I didn't know we could go on leave during the probabtional period and b) my knee is still way too fucked up to actually enjoy skiing. Remember, it happened in April last year... and today was the first day I had the feeling I could run more than five meters at a reasonable jogging trot... And here I thought I'd be done with that stupid business by January...

Anyway, enough of the whining (after all, pain is just weakness leaving the body), have another "30 Days" question!

First five (and I should get around linking them all together some day... done!):

Next one:

6. Where are you most comfortable writing? At what time of day? Computer or good ol’ pen and paper?

Creatures of the night, brought to light! )
gelbes_gilatier: (things that make me go BOOM)
I have a spare day (yes, in the middle of the week... have to work on Saturday for that... argh) and I'd been posting memes left and right the last few weeks but never a "30 Days..." entry because I usually need to take a little time for that but... yeah, I have time now and I'm going to use it (mwahahahahahaha, be afraid! Be very afraid). So... where were we?

Ah, right.

1. Tell us about your favorite writing project/universe that you’ve worked with and why.
2. How many characters do you have? Do you prefer males or females?
3. How do you come up with names, for characters (and for places if you’re writing about fictional places)?

4. Tell us about one of your first stories/characters!

And here we go:

5. By age, who is your youngest character? Oldest? How about “youngest” and “oldest” in terms of when you created them?

Age is not Fate, it's an attitude. )

In light of next month's 100th anniversary of International Women's Day (a tradition that used to be firmly observed in East Germany but is slowly starting to be forgotten :() and the reoccurence of Women's History Month in March and a suggestion by [livejournal.com profile] sgteam14283, I was thinking about a little quick challenge to celebrate it, in two of the comms I (apparently, according to LJ) own:

Women's Day/Women's History Month challenge poll @ [livejournal.com profile] major_explosion (Lorne/Cadman comm)

Women's Day/Women's History Month challenge poll @ [livejournal.com profile] stargate_ocs (a comm for Stargate OCs)

Go on, everyone, take part! Let's celebrate all those wonderful Stargate women! And I certainly hope to see lots of great Stargate women fic and art next month :D 100 years of International Women's Day, girls! Let's have a party!

Fandom: Stargate

A/N: Heh, second multi-chapter story in the Protect and Survive 'verse! Ready for another roller coaster ride?

Stolen Borrowed from [livejournal.com profile] artaxastra (who said she borrowed it from [livejournal.com profile] penknife):

Pick a paragraph (or any passage between... let's say 200 and 600 words) from anything I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

Ask away, people!

Title: Minor Characters I: Odd Man Out (4/19)
Fandom: Stargate

Genres: action/adventure
Summary: Everyone knows SG1... but what about the other teams on the roster? Here's one of them. Meet Major Thomas Moore, Captain Laura Greenspan, Lieutenant Maureen Reece and Master Sergeant Simon DeLisle - also known as SG10 - and accompany them on the mission that made them a team.
A/N: It's been ages, I know. But yeah... work and stuff and everything. And I promise, after this chapter there will be some actual plot. Really.

Title: Best Laid Plans
Fandom: Stargate
Rating: K+
Genres: gen, friendship
Summary: Laura Cadman meets someone aboard the George Hammond. Guess who. Missing scene/tag/probably AU to [livejournal.com profile] jo_graham's  Homecoming.
A/N: This little something kind of assaulted me when I read the first half of the book - and yes, there are spoilers in here - so I hacked it into the laptop on the way from Hamburg to Binz/Rügen and here it is... although I think I pretty much screwed around with Jo's timeline so you probably maybe better treat this as a kind of AU. Jo, did I screw around with your timeline? Also... can you forgive me for that? (it really needed to be like this, otherwise it wouldn't have worked).

Also, in case anyone else than [livejournal.com profile] mackenziesmomma wants to know what Laura does to keep her Marines in shape... go ask mac. She had the best suggestions :D (I liked the one with the control chrystal best...).

A/N: So I'm on vacations and watching Law & Order in the afternoon... been a while since I did that and it's amazing how fast you get used to a different rhythm... I still feel like I should be at work :D Anyway, here's part #4 and not betaed, either. I hope you don't mind :)

A/N: Phew... first part part of the Protect and Survive series is finally finished. Down at the bottom of the epilogue you'll find that there's a already a TBC link. It's one of my stories for [livejournal.com profile] fanfic100 but also belongs in the PAS verse and kind of prepares the ground for the next multichapter story. So... if you haven't read it yet, maybe read it now?

A/N: Aaand... here we go with part #3. When I wrote it I wasn't such a big fan of it but it's a kind of transition story and I was never a big fan of those. I still hope, though, that you like it ;) (also, yes, not betaed)

I'm stealing another meme from [livejournal.com profile] bluflamingo *sighs

But, okay, here it goes:

a. Give me a pairing(/threesome/moresome) and I'll tell you my favorite get-together plot

b. Pick a character and I will give and explain the top five ideas/concepts/etc I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to accurately depicting them

c. Tell me a pairing, and I will tell you:

1. When or if I started shipping them:
2. What I think their challenge is:
3. What makes me happy about them:
4. What makes me sad about them:
5. What moment I wish had never happened:
6. Who I'd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:
7. My happily ever after for them:

to everyone on the f-list! I hope you all had the party you planned to have and that whatever you did on New Year's Eve was fun.

We, for our part, were apparently in a war zone. For all those people who have never been in Germany on New Year's Eve, let me tell you that it's kinda like in the US on July 4th or maybe even worse (or better, depending on your point of view). That is to say, it seems like some people save their money all the year, only to spend it in a glorious heap of explosions and BOOMs at the end of it (and yes, my family is no exception to that). About a week before New Year's Eve the sound of minor explosions can be heard sporadically, and the amount increases steadily until New Year's Eve, even though using fireworks is officially forbidden until 1800 on New Year's Eve and you can't buy fireworks before the 29th. I do have a feeling that some people deliberately buy more than the plan to use so they can have a kind of warm-up phase.

May we all have our hopes, our will to try... if we don't we might as well lie down and die... )

So... how was your New Year's Eve party (or not party) and what do you expect of 2011?
gelbes_gilatier: (things that make me go BOOM)
this is a kind of (belated) Christmas present for me:

“3) If the SGA movie is a go, would you still be involved as the writer and/or producer?”
Answer: I’m sorry to say but the cancellation puts the brakes on whatever progress the SGA movie had made in the past month, shelving it indefinitely.
Mike McGinnis writes: “Is there any chance of the SGA movie anymore if you guys can’t save SGU?”
Answer: See above.  Contrary to what some may think, the cancellation of SGU is very bad news for those looking forward to an Atlantis movie.

Source (via [livejournal.com profile] wraithfodder

I know that a lot of people on my flist were really looking forward to a Stargate Atlantis movie (and I do feel sorry for you because I know how it is to really, really want something and not get it) but damn, I wasn't. Especially after what Mallozzi said about how Atlantis fared since EATG (in his head, anyway... and only in his head, thank God), I just really, really, really hope that this will finally mean that they will let the franchise rest in peace and give it to the fans. Because, let's face it, we're the ones who actually know what to do with it and how to write it. This is hopefully it for the SGA movie.
